Aircraft Noise Monitoring System

According to most international legal standards, airports are obliged to record aircraft noise in their vicinity. Topsonic’s monitoring systems not only comply with any international legal standards, but offer accuracy, reliability, a wide scope of features and user-friendliness far beyond any legal requirements.

Basic Components of the Aircraft Noise Monitoring System

The following list contains a brief summary of the most important components of our aircraft noise monitoring systems. Additional information can be found using the links on both sides of this page or in our Technical Brochures.

Aircraft noise monitoring terminals:

These include stationary monitoring installations with weatherproof microphones and calibrated sound level meters. The encased devices allow data capturing and storage, audio recording and individual settings. Each measuring station is connected to the airport with a telephone/data line or an internet connection. Optionally, meteorological devices can be added which allow the taking of weather data into account. Another option is the installation of webcams which are automatically activated by predefined noise events.

Aircraft noise server:

This server consists of a central computer at the airport where the complete data of all measuring stations is pooled. With a connection to flight information systems (e.g. radar, flight planning) the noise data is correlated here with the corresponding flights. All other calculations (e.g. the calculation of equivalent sound levels) are also performed here.

Aircraft noise database:

The raw data and evaluated/calculated data are stored in a central database. All data is constantly kept available here and can be accessed at any time.

Interfaces to ATC and radar data:

The noise monitoring software receives radar data from ATC, allowing for an optimal and reliable attribution of noise events to the aircraft which cause them.

Noise monitoring software:

Our easy-to-use operating software offers a number of comprehensive functions for aircraft noise analysis. Some of these features are:

  • Survey map of the airport surroundings including flight movement display
  • Graphic and acoustic representation of individual noise events.
  • Creation of freely-composable statistics
  • Compilation of result reports
  • Sound levels
  • Creation and management of MP3 sound files
