Noise Exposure: Measurement, Evaluation and Reduction
The environmental impact of noise is becoming an increasingly important issue. Industrial noise near residential areas, gunfire at military shooting ranges or traffic noise at racetracks or on roads – exceptional noise exposure leads to conflicts between the noise originators and potential sufferers anywhere.
Precise and verifiable noise measurement according to legal standards and with calibrated sound level meters and class 1 microphones not only helps with unprejudiced reasoning, but can also very often be used as a basis for finding solutions to systematically reduce noise exposure. Individual noise sources and the exact noise characteristics they produce can be identified. It is possible to trigger a notification whenever a predefined noise level is exceeded or even to listen to live noises from a remote control centre.
Customised systems for individual requirements
Topsonic offers sophisticated noise measuring systems which can be formulated and configured exactly according to any specific requirements. The range of available components includes everything from mobile measuring stations which can be hired for a medium-term survey, to stationary, complete large-scale systems permanently monitoring and analysing noise events throughout the premises and surroundings of industrial plants, airports, racetracks or other environments.
In addition to the actual gauging stations which are connected to a central server computer via radio transmission or by a telephone or internet connection, the system also offers sophisticated software. This software allows for the recording, analysis and attribution of noise events to their original sources. Both acoustic replay and graphic display are possible. Detailed reports and statistics can be individually composed, configured, and created. A direct link from the server to any connected measuring station is also possible at any time to access data or even to hear a live noise transmission.
